It’s fun to PLAY at the YMCA

Last week I bought a family membership at our local YMCA. I’ve wanted one for a very long time and I finally have the funds to dedicate to it. I used it for the first time yesterday.

I did 35 minutes on the treadmill, going back and forth on intensity from fat burning to cardio. Then I tried the eliptical. I didn’t even make it 3 minutes before I started getting dizzy. I had to stop.

I’ll wait a little while longer to try the eliptical again. This week, I’m dedicating to finding the routine that works best for me especially finding the best times for me to go to the Y for at least an hour long workout. And I’m starting out by just using the treadmill for now. I’ll work my way up to combining other exercise equipment or even adding a swim. I’d like to lose a bit more weight before I jump in the pool though. That and I need to find some swim goggles. I used to have my dad’s, but I can’t find them now. That kind of makes me sad.

I went in this morning after dropping the kids at school. I spent an hour on the treadmill, then I went to Walmart and stocked up on much needed fresh produce, frozen veggies, canned varieties of tomatoes and salsa (for cooking with) as well as yogurt, skim milk, and bread.

No more stalling. I’ve maintained my initial 30 lb weightloss for over a month now. It’s time to get back to a regular exercise routine and eating right at every meal and shed another 30+lbs. I’ve got a trip to Vegas in November to get ready for!

Good for you! I’m trying to get back on track today as well, only I have gained some back. My daughter is still home (going to preschool on wed) and finagled me to not getting to my weights class but I made myself go and do the machines for at least 30-40 minutes. It is not much, but it is something. And, something is better than nothing, right? Good luck!

I love our YMCA, although we have the priciest one in the area…they are so good to us, though.

    Good for you!

You should ask the Y if you can have a fitness intstructor help you get a workout plan. Many Y’s will do something like this for free - especially in your first 12 weeks of exercising - to make sure you have the tools to keep with the program.

I work for the Y (not the one you attend) and it can be such a great resource beyond just providing a gym to work out in.

    Good luck!

A friend and I have made a pact to do a warm up week this week and then we are kicking off the fall with a monkey stomping on the fitness scale. We both have big events in October! Here’s to chicks who bond over fitness! (Are we really THAT nuts?!)

Just an FYI, in case you didn’t know - your Y might sell goggles behind the desk. That’s where I got mine. :D

  • Congratulations on the first 30! That’s so impressive.

My kids get dropped off at school before 7:00 now, so I really need to get my morning workout routine back on track.

My humans have a membership at the “Y” too. I don’t understand — why don’t they just chase birds, dust mites, and toys around if they need exercise?
