So, I’ve been working since last week. Mostly learning the ropes, the various operations, duties, tasks, etc. I’ve also been taking care of a backlog of business that was not addressed this Summer while the position was vacant.
I’m only working 20 hours a week, but damn, I’m tired ya’ll. It’s been a long time since I worked outside the home in a “regular” job. I’m frickin’ tired and my husband is driving me nuts as he adjusts to my not being quite as “available” as I have been in the past. He’s having to take a more active role with certain tasks and he’s also having to wait around for me to do some things instead of vice versa.
It feels good.
Meanwhile, I’ve met with my advisory committee chair and I have approximately 2 months to complete my thesis to be able to graduate on time.
Crap.
But I’m going to do my best to get it done. Some how. Some way.
Oh and did I mention I’ve joined the PTA and the kids are joining Scouts this year?
Double crap.
When am I supposed to find time to exercise again?

Sounds like you’ll need to exercise just to unwind! I look forward to seeing you handle it with grace!

Don’t drop PTA! We need you! Our school has THREE officers this year - yes THREE. Pres, VP (me) and Treasurer. We’re hurting.

Don’t give up the exercise! Do give yourself 14 work days to adjust to that new schedule, then view your personal schedule with less fatigue.
So sayeth the Wise Corgi.

You may need to sit down and figure out a weekly schedule to fit everything in. You don’t necessarily have to follow it to a T but it may give you perspective on managing your time effectively. Just be sure you get in 15 min a day where you can be ALL alone (I know, impossible feat for working moms!).
If it makes you feel better, I am working 20-30 hours a week, taking 16 credit hours at the community college, have 3 kids, a dog, and a hubby, and no sanity
I know your pain!

Darn it, girl, I’m tired just reading your post! It sounds like your crazy schedule counts as exercise to me!
My beloved would flip his lid if I went back to work right now. I second Christine - who needs a workout when you’re doing all of that?! The only hope is to somehow rig your comp to your treadmill and type while you run. Something tells me that proofing would be an issue there!
From what I’ve seen, people who work part-time seem to have a far more complicated schedule than those of us working full time–because they pack too much into those hours when they are not working!
DON’T TRY TO DO IT ALL!
Think about what you really need to do and what’s important. For me, I need to make sure my kids are well fed, in clean clothing and in a house they feel comfortable in, with a mother who has time to be with them when they need me. The rest is just icing on the cake–and baking IS something I carve out time to do because it’s a pleasure for them and for me, so it’s worth doing.
Fine for the PTA and the Scouts. But there are undoubtedly tons of full time SAHMs who can do the committees and all the other things these associations need nowadays. Send stuff in, help as needed, but don’t feel compelled to volunteer for things. It’s nice, but how IMPORTANT is it in terms of your kids’ day to day happiness–or in yours for that matter?
And schedule in time for exercise–keeping yourself in shape really helps you keep running at work and home just to stay in place
It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity–and a sanity saver!
