When Mothertalk offered the chance to review a line of products focused on young girls I was eager to volunteer.
The Nana Star product line includes story books following the adventures of a little girl who discovers a lost baby star and her efforts to help him find his way home. The books were inspired by correspondence and stories written by a grandmother for her grandchildren. They are beautifully illustrated and paired with the accompanying dolls have the potential to remain treasured possessions well beyond girlhood.
We received the first two books in the series Nana Star and Nana Star and the Moonman along with a doll and musical lovey. My five year old daughter was excited to receive the books and dolls.
Her favorite, by far, is the Nana Star doll. It’s really just a beautifully made doll. I was concerned when I saw that it had a detachable tree branch (part of the story), detachable star (baby star from the story), and handkerchief (again, part of the story). My daughter has a history of removing accessories and promptly losing them. I cautioned her to take care and so far Nana Star is still in possession of all three.
We soon discovered that the gloves are removable too. These are extremely difficult to put back on the doll’s hands and I would urge the manufacturer to consider attaching them more permanently to the doll with several quick stitches to avert further frustration on the part of parents like me. But then, that’s just me and one of my pet peeves. I can’t stand doll clothes that are easy to take off but difficult to put back on.
My daughter has become very attached to the Nana Star doll which pleases me in this age of Bratz dolls. Nana Star and her Tinkerbell doll (roughly the same size and style as Nana Star) have become best friends forever and the Girl uses them to act out and expand upon the stories in the books using her imagination.
If you are interested in a more traditional toys (and wholesome as opposed to certain slutty toys geared towards young girls these days) and stories for little girls Nana Star will surely satisfy. You can purchase these products from the Nana Star website as well as Amazon.

Cool stuff. Wish I had girls sometimes.
My grandmother bought me a very fancy cinderella doll when I was four. As she handed it to me my mother cautioned me not to take off the shoes or try to brush her hair. I looked up at her and promptly marched to my room to remove both shoes and try out my barbie brush on the hair. I still don’t know why? I desperately NEEDED to know WHY I shouldn’t mess w/ the hair and shoes..

Well how cute is that. My daughter would just love one of these, when she gets older that is. My favorite thing about it is that I happen to absolutly adore children’s books, and all books in general, that come with those extra little goodies. I can’t wait to check into these NaNa star products when my baby girl reaches an appropriate age. Thanks!
