Thursday Thirteen…about The Boy

Part 3 of an ongoing series. You can read Part 1: Demolition Boy in last week’s Thursday Thirteen here, and Part 2: Thursday Thirteen: Things Princess Whines-A-Lot has said, here.

The Boy doesn’t have very many–if any–annoying repetitive phrases anymore.  Therefore, this post will be a general “about” post totally dedicated to him.

Thirteen Things said by Sleeping Mommy’s Children:
About The BOY.
1. He is my first born but he was not my first pregnancy.2. He is a LOT like me.  Sometimes, he will say something to get at his daddy and it’s like looking straight into my past.

3. He’s very intuititive and emotional with a great deal of empathy and common sense.

4. He basically taught himself to read this past year.

5. He has started asking me about things he hears on the news.  Yesterday morning he heard the newscaster say something and came looking for me.  “Mom, she said the world was going to collapse and the president said that the country won’t survive.”  So I backed it up and it was something about Iran’s crazy leader saying Israel would collapse.  So I explained to him about crazy leaders of countries and how this one hates the country of Israel and wants it to be destroyed.  I never did find the reference to the president.  Again, this kid really reminds me of me as a kid.  I used to listen to the morning news and ask my mom and grandpa questions before school about world events.

6. He loves geography and maps.  He has one of my old 1940s world atlases and he will sit and just pour over it for hours.

7. He’s six years old.

8. He has a slight cleft in his chin that he inherited from his dad’s father.  I have a feeling it will make him look quite ruggedly handsome when he grows up.

9. He’s got a killer smile and beautiful, expressive blue eyes.

10. He’s also fascinated by the stars, planets and moon as well as the weather.

11. The kid is the “cat whisperer”  I SWEAR TO GOD.

12. He’s very mechanical and likes to take things apart to see how they work and then put them back together again.

13. Our relationship now is much better and closer than it was when he was a toddler and preschooler. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of who he will become and I just know we will be very close when he grows up and have a real friendship beyond the parent/child dynamic.
