Day one down

I often wonder what we are thinking when we set off on these trips with three young children.

We are in Memphis tonight. The day wasn’t so bad other than we didn’t leave the house until 2 1/2 hours after I had planned. Oh and it took us five times to leave the house this morning because we kept forgetting things and having to go back for them. The biggie of course being the Disney tickets.

We were about an hour and a half outside Memphis before the meltdowns commenced. That’s not so bad.

Had dinner at the Interstate BBQ as featured on Alton Brown’s Feasting on Asphalt. Um, yeah. Not such a great idea. Frankly, it sucked. How on earth that place can be considered one of the top BBQ joints in the country I don’t know. I can name five places within 50 miles of my house that are much better.

Tomorrow the goal is to get to Atlanta to spend the night. Hopefully Birmingham by lunch. I’d like to spend some time looking around too.

Pray for us. The aforementioned meltdown included chanting/shrieking of the phrase “NO GO BYE BYE!!!”

Oh and apparently the youngest has decided that NOW is the time to potty train. I didn’t bring a potty seat. So now we have to go shopping for one tomorrow.

It’s 10:30pm. The kids are all still asleep. And unfortunately so am I.

First off, you don’t know good BBQ until you eat it in Texas. Eating BBQ anywhere else is like eating hot sauce in Lousiana (we had some - in several locations across LA - and it was like PASTA SAUCE - ew).

I am assuming you meant the kids were still awake, haha. Well, its a vacation, right? Isn’t that the unwritten rule for kids to make sure they get to stay up as late as the adults? This is why we probably haven’t taken a vacation in a long, long, long time. I can’t say I won’t be there, though - we’re supposed to go to the coast at the end of September! ACK!

Enjoy - I hope you get a teeny bit of quiet time.
