I am dog-tired, ya’ll.
We still have some things at the old house. THANK GOD, the guy who bought it is cutting us some slack. It’s been a complicated process due to previous committments on Snoring Daddy’s part as well as all the rain and mud. There is very little left inside the house–some things on the counter, in the attic…and of course the storage building and shop in the back yard.
Snoring Daddy broke down and is having a buddy finish replacing the flooring and do some other repairs, plus probably some painting that we need to do before turning the property fully over to the buyer. We are gradually moving things into the new house from the garage–it’s hard to move when you have young kids!
Meanwhile, Snoring Daddy’s deadline for his book is fast approaching, so he is also going to have his buddy build the fence we need here for the dogs. I really hope the guy can get to it soon. Having the dogs on a cable tied to the front porch is getting really friggin’ annoying. I swear I am out there six times a day untangling the dumbasses from around the support beams.
The cats are adjusting well also, and we had no reason to worry about Mickey, our indoor/outdoor kitty. He spends hours outdoors in the tallgrass and woods scooping up the field mice and boppin’ them on the head. Then he comes in when he’s ready and gives us some lovin’.
The kids are loving the house, enjoying the space and we are thrilled with the fact that when they are upstairs and we are downstairs they are quiet in comparison to the cacaphony we so often suffered at the old house. Last evening we enjoyed some time outdoors on the porch and patio with bubbles and sidewalk chalk and it was really nice. If it weren’t for the mosquitos I would dearly love to sit out on the porch with Snoring Daddy’s laptop.
This evening Snoring Daddy put together my new armoire computer desk. My old desk is a pile of kindling on the driveway–it didn’t survive the move. This desk is nice enough to keep downstairs and can be locked to keep Demo-Toddler out. We don’t have a separate room for an office, so we had to move Snoring Daddy’s desk into our bedroom–he just has too much work stuff to have his desk in the living room–not only is it an eye-sore, but also there’s the Demo-Toddler. His destructive force cannot be denied.
I would really like to be able to work nonstop to finish moving in like I have all the times before, but I just can’t do that anymore. Besides the kids requiring supervision, I just can’t lift what I used to, therefore I am at the mercy of my husband. I have to be patient because he doesn’t work the way I want to and besides he has other responsibilities requiring his attention–like supporting us–that he has to attend too first. So I am doing my best to keep my anal compulsion to put things away under control. So I unpack as I can and try to relax and enjoy our new home.
I didn’t leave the house all day today. It. Was. Wonderful.

So nice to see progress! That’s really swell that the new owners are being nice about the stuff. Hopefully you can get it done soon. One box at a time, one day at a time, you’ll get it done. And a desk that locks? Awesome.
I think summer is my favorite time of year just because I am able to take the laptop outside and enjoy the wonderfully mild temperatures, as compared to six months ago, when venturing outside was a big ordeal to keep from getting frostbite.
So as not to wreck this, I have three words
DEEP WOODS OFF.
And if you like to keep your little piggies in bright regalia, make sure you find a way so as to not let the spray hit them. It ruins nail polish.
For me, spending time outside is worth smelling like Off all summer long. (I call it my summer fragrance.) Mosquitos seem to love me a little more than most people, but I refuse to let them get the better of me! I’ve heard those yard sprays can work quite well to keep those blood-sucking vampire bugs at bay as well, although I have yet to try them.
I’m the same way when it comes to moving…get it done and get comfortable ASAP. But with our last move, just a little more than a year ago, I tried to take the perspective that I have years and years of enjoyment ahead of me in the new house, so it’s OK if getting it all settled takes a little longer than what I’d hope for. Good luck!
Ah, how awesome that you’re almost done! I am sure you are really going to miss your crazy evil neighbor lady, right?
