Spring in Oklahoma

Early this morning, 4:40am to be exact, we lost power. I know this because I was abruptly awakened by the sudden deafening silence that comes when the fan and humidifier that run constantly through the night, suddenly stopped. The electricity was out, and Snoring Daddy and I are dependent on the noise of the fans to help us sleep.

Then a long, loud, rumble.

While we both love a good thunderstorm we do NOT enjoy the loss of electricity.

So for the reamaining 2 hours and 40 minutes of the morning we tried to sleep. Occasionally I dozed off only to be awakened by a power surge restarting the fans, and getting my hopes up.

At one point I fell asleep but dreaming thought I was still awake. I had let Darby out because he had hit the restless cycle of the metabolization of the Phenobarbital he takes to control his epileptic seizures. I can’t handle the click-clacking of his toenails on the laminate flooring as he paces back and forth through the night, so I let him out, knowing he wouldn’t bark and the window was open and there was that deafening silence so I knew I would hear him if he did.

So anyway, in the dream, I heard Darby bark and got up to let him in. In the pitch black, I heard a mewing and thought that Mickey had been caught outside in the storm and let him in. I couldn’t see the cat but when the electricity came back on I discovered it was not Mickey.

It turned out to be a rabid cat that started chasing me, hissing at me, trying to scratch and bite me. There was something not right with this cat and I had to get it out of the house before it gave my cats a disease or hurt one or hurt me. When it suddenly changed colors I realized I was dreaming and woke up.

That was the only sleep I had between 4:40 and 7:20 this morning when my oldest got up and after going to the bathroom he came to my room and said with total exasperation, “Mama, don’t tell me that every light bulb in this house is burned out.”

We have a habit of leaving burned out bulbs unchanged until we absolutely have to change them but I don’t think we are THAT bad.

I do not sleep well when the electricity is out either. And what a strange dream! Mine are really weird too.

Got woke up by the no fan too!! It happened on my end of town right after I had fell asleep after being awakened by the trash truck people. I hate the trash truck…They sit in front of my home and smash it all together..every single trash day. Like, sheesh!! Can’t you go down the road and do it for once. LOL.
